Citrine is a variety of quartz and has been used ornamentally for thousands of years. In Ancient Greece, the stone was used as a decorative gem while 17th century Scotsmen used citrine on the handles of daggers and swords for decorative purposes. Citrine became particularly popular during the Art Deco era. It is named after its golden yellow colour (citron/French: lemon).
